Looking for hassle-free travel to Verbier? It just got easier!
29th May 2017
It hasn’t always been straightforward to get to the likes of Verbier and Zermatt from the UK. But that could all change, as a brand new airline, Powdair, plans to launch direct flights between the UK and Sion airport in the Swiss canton of Valais next December.
The airline will be offering flyers the opportunity to travel from at least five UK airports, as well as Brussels and Rotterdam. Over the winter months, Powdair will operate five days a week with the first tickets going on sale in coming weeks.
Get ready for hassle-free travel to Verbier
The airline company hopes to significantly reduce the time spent travelling to resorts such as Verbier, Crans-Montana, Nendaz, Zinal and Zermatt, which, as it currently stands, can take several hours to reach from airports such as Geneva and Zurich.
Powdair will fly from Southend, Southampton, Bournemouth, Bristol, Manchester and Edinburgh, and it is expected that these new flight connections will see a dramatic increase in the number of people flying to Sion to hit the Verbier slopes.
In addition, Verbier is home to some epic winter sports competitions, with Sion airport making it much easier for participants and spectators to reach their destination quickly.
On February 3, Swiss International Air Lines trialled a flight connection from London Heathrow to Sion – with one weekly flight heading out on a Saturday. Plan to fully implement this connection are yet to be decided, but it was confirmed that the flight was incredibly popular.
