28 Days Later | A Postseason Verbier
17th April 2018
Verbier is at its best during the winter: when the snow is powdery and the temperature is low, optimum for what people are there for, skiing. We can’t exactly blame people for not wanting to see Verbier outside of those conditions. For them, peaks without snow would be like Paris without the Eiffel Tower; London without black cabs; Los Angeles without stardom. It would be reminiscent of an apocalypse movie, where places have lost all sense of reason of what they once were. Locals say they prefer the summer, the temperatures daily are a cool 30 degrees C or higher and the mountains are more beautiful than ever. Verbier accommodation is great in the summer, too. It’s a bit cheaper!
As we said, it’s different. But different doesn’t necessarily mean bad, different can be beautiful. It can be as refreshing as a glass of ice-cold water. You can do alternative activities, like, for example:
Walking and Hiking
With over 100 km of trail paths and hiking routes within ten minutes of the cable cars. Taking a stroll or a hard mountain route is an awe-inducing experience in the summer. Shorts – T-Shirt, backpacks with picnic lunches and your trusty dog – this is by far the best part of Verbier out of season.
Paragliding and Skydiving
For the thrillseekers, this is one exercise that certainly matcverbihes the extremes of on-season Verbier. Whether you want to glide over the very peaks that you once skied on or freefall right out of a helicopter, plummeting at ungodly speeds towards them. Either choice, it’s great, offseason fun.
Trails have been getting better and better here in Verbier. There is more than 12 km marked routes which you and whoever you’re with now can let loose on. It’s real fun, too. If you’re the risk-taking type, do some picture-worthy jumps! Less a risk-taker and more just the competitive type, race; race all your friends. All runs are equipped with ‘freelap’ timing system, meaning you can compete whilst out there. After it’s all over? Go and drink a deserved pint at one of Verbier’s many thriving bars. The party doesn’t stop here.
